Our Engagement Story!
This past February, Dan and Kaitlin decided to celebrate Valentine's Day on the 15th and it was a celebration they'll never forget. Dan planned the day out beginning with a couples massage in the morning, and a nice brunch at one of their favorite breakfast places. They had intended to go hiking later in the afternoon, but on their way to the trails Dan received a call from his mother saying that she needed help because her car had broken down at the park. Dan's response to this was a frustrated "Can't you call someone else?" but of course, Kait insisted that they go and help her right away.
This particular park happened to have an outdoor amphitheater for concerts during the summer that Dan and Kait often attend. They were driving through the parking lot, looking for Dan's mother. Kait didn't suspect at the time, but Dan knew exactly where to find his mom, by the amphitheater. As they got out of the car behind the stage, Kait heard the sound of a violin and cello playing. Assuming Dan's mother was listening to the music while she waited for them, Kait began walking to the stage. As they got closer, she could see a trail of rose petals leading the way, and this is where she started to get very confused. She was convinced that this was something special that someone else had set up. She tried to pull Dan away from the stage saying "Dan, this looks like something special for someone?!" He assured her that it was indeed something special.
Dan insisted that Kait continue walking on stage where there was a chair draped in a soft blanket, a bouquet of roses, champagne and a sheet of paper with lyrics. Kait's not sure she thought anything at that moment; still not processing what was happening. Dan directed her to the chair, and whispered in her ear "Happy Valentine's Day." He walked over to the microphone and picked up his guitar. It was then that Kait realized "Oh! This is for me?"
Dan proceeded to play the most beautiful song that Kait had ever heard. He had entitled it "Love Is Real," which he had written and composed just for this very moment. The last words of the song were "marry me?" as he dropped to one knee, and of course Kait said, "Yes!" Dan and Kait could not have asked for a more perfect moment, a more perfect proposal, or a more perfect love!
